Betty Ann Gower
October 6, 1939 – January 20, 2019
Gower, Betty Ann (79) Timberlea –
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Betty Ann Gower announce her passing at home with her family by her side on January 20, following her courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Halifax on October 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Hazel & Percy Keizer. She is survived by her loving husband Al of 58 years, her daughter Marie (Cole Harbour), son Greg (Tantallon) and her one and only grandson Trevor MacDonald (Dartmouth) who was the apple of her eye and who she loved very much. She is survived by Grand Puppy Percy and gone but never forgotten her first Grand Puppy Ty. Betty is survived by brothers Percy Keizer, Ernest Keizer (Diane), Richard Keizer, John Keizer (Carol), Murray Keizer (Pam), Jimmy Keizer (Krista) and sisters Judy Hartlen (Larry), Dorothy Jennings (Almon), Rachel Scott and many nieces and nephews. Betty is predeceased by sisters Gloria LeBlanc, Shirley Walters, Joyce Coakley and brother Bernard Keizer, Step brothers, Harold and Eddie Keizer and two girls at birth.
Betty worked for many years at Gilkie shoe store in Halifax and worked for 17 years at Sears pricing room. She not only enjoyed working at Sears, but loved shopping at Sears especially in the Bargain Basement. She could and sometimes did spend many hours going through the bins to find that special gift for that special someone. Betty was an energetic homemaker and enjoyed making birthday cakes for family and co-workers. She also enjoyed looking after children and made each and every one of them feel like they were one of her own. She enjoyed trips to Florida, Nashville and Jamaica but always eager to return home. Mom would do anything for anybody and always found the good in people. She was not only a Mom to Marie and Greg by was a mom to her entire family. Anyone that knew her loved her. Mom always had that sparkle in her eyes and a beautiful smile. She will be sadly missed by everyone.
Cremation has taken place and with the respect of Betty’s wishes there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks to QEII Health and Science Center, Canadian Red Cross, Dr. Robert Scovil, Dr. Lori Wood, and Devon Hennigar of Palliative Care. We would also like to extend a special thanks for the care and compassion of the VON nursing and a very special thanks to Yvonne for all her help.
