Joy Blumenschein of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully, on Sunday, October 21, 2018
at the age of 69.
Gwendolyn (Joy) was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, to Archie and Evelyn Nelson,
on December 10, 1948. Joy and her siblings (Marilyn, Sheila and George) grew up on the
family farm in Kitscoty, Alberta, where they farmed grain, cattle and many chickens!
In 1970, Joy married Norman Douglas Blumenschein in Calgary. From Calgary they moved
out east to Newmarket, Ontario, but returned and settled 1975 to Sherwood Park.
In the early 80″s, Joy and Norm opened NDB Printing, where they worked until 2008,
when they sold the business. After selling their family business, Joy returned to school,
where she graduated from Grant McEwan College and went back to work as a Special
Needs Educational Assistant. Joy retired in 2016 and spend her retirement enjoying time
with her children, grandchildren and friends, and managed to take in both New York City
and New Orleans, in the year before her passing.
Norm passed away in 2015, and Joy is survived by their two children, Christine (Donald) of
Calgary and Harry (Janelle) of Sherwood Park, seven grandchildren: Joshua, Jessica, Ainsley,
Archer, Hayley, Kaylie and Zachary.
