Obituary for Kaiden Leonard Little
Not so long ago, and not so far, far away, Kaiden Little danced into this world on February 23, 2012, where he made a lasting impression on everyone he met (and many, many more). On January 14, 2019 Kaiden’s spirit took a Tiefighter to the stars, where he was met by his great-grandparents Max and Irene Janes, Norman and Winnifred Soper, Jobe and Minnie Little, Max and Violet Piercey, his great-uncle David Little, and his fellow Warriors Isla Short and Nevaeh Denine.
His life will be celebrated by his parents, Danielle and Michael Little, his big brother Alexander, and their cat Hope; his grandparents Don and Marjorie Little, Norma Soper, and Leonard (Margaret) Soper; his aunt Tassie, cousins Leigha and Hannah, and their dad Ed Matthews; his aunt Michelle (Darryl), and cousins Brady and Lucas Snow; and great aunts and uncles, Judy (Roy) Pitcher, Marilyn (Gerald) Fleming, Gail (Stirling) Bishop, Randy (Carol) Janes, Dianne Little, Linda Little, Walt (Lucy) Piercey, Bill (Lilly) Piercey, Mary (Dennis) Smith, Edna (Johnny) Foote, Stella Piercey, Paul Piercey, Kathleen (Carl) Squibb, Greg (Allison) Piercey, Marion (Ross) Randell, Myrtle (Wince) Tuck, Cecil (Elaine) Soper, Edgar (Helen) Soper, and step-grandmother Martha Soper. Also important in Kaiden’s life were his Godparents, Robert (Wanda) Burden and Krista House (Bill), and his babysitter Tanya Brown-Levia, and special neighbour Peggy (Jeremy, Lauren, and James) Strickland.
There were many people that used the force to help Jedi Warrior Kaiden along his journey and it is impossible to mention everyone. A very special and heartfelt thank you to, the Janeway Children’s Hospital, Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, the Dream Fund; his medical team, which included doctors Goodyear, Moorehead, Bowes, Price, Hodder and Pochini; nurses, Gail Roberts, Kelly Thompson (aka Nurse Chicken Butt), Jill Mitchell, Dave Morgan, Michael O’Reilly, Melanie Power, Robyn Rickert, Jacqueline Mitchell, Amanda Pickett, Ashley Welsher, Janet Humber, Michelle Abbott, Kathy Gillis, student nurse Brianne Neil; the teams in Medical Day Care and Child Life, and special Janeway Star Wars Rebel Fighters Barry Efford, Bev Dawe, Shawna Sparkes, Stacey Smith, and Reverend Thorne. Also, his naturopathic team Dr. Adrian, Dr. Mercer, and June Tavener.
His Jedi strike force was vast and included Mr. Butler, Ms. Barron, Ms. Power, Ms. Hart, Ms. Scott, Mr. Edwards, Ms. Chafe, Mr. Warren, and the entire St. George’s Elementary School community. Also, Chuck McCarthy and Round 13; Service Canada, Coast Guard, and DFO staff; Terra Nova Motors; Amanda Dinn; the communities of Heart’s Content, Hant’s Harbour, and Conception Bay South for their support and fundraising efforts – in particular, Rebecca Kirby, Krista Peckford, Crystal Hart, and Stephanie Pratt. Kaiden’s Jedi strike force also extended to Ontario and included Bernice McKinley–Comte and family, and Tim Burtch.
Kaiden dreamed of being a police officer. Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are to be commended for their efforts to help him live his dream. Special thank you to Chief Joe Boland, Georgina Short, Stephanie Myers, Chelsea Guinchard, Stephen Picco, and Geoff Higdon.
True to his bright and happy nature, Kaiden loved flowers, and his family will gratefully accept floral arrangements to remind them of the colour that Kaiden brought to their lives. Donations can also be made in his memory to the Islaview Foundation, Nevaeh’s Lemonade Stand, the Children’s Wish Foundation, Candlelighter’s Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Tyler Robinson Foundation, or the Jack Hand Foundation.
Visitation will take place at Hickey’s Funeral Home in Conception Bay South on Wednesday, January 16 from 7-9 pm and on Thursday, January 17 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Kaiden’s life will take place on Friday, January 18 at 1:00 pm at the Salvation Army Citadel in Conception Bay South with Reverend Bruce Kearley and Major Lorne Pritchett officiating, to be followed by a reception at Topsail United Church Auditorium. Family and friends are asked to wear green (Kaiden’s favourite colour) and bring their light sabers to help light Kaiden’s way home.
