Patricia “Patsy” Feener
It is with heavy hearts and eternal sadness that our family announces the passing of Patricia “Patsy” Feener, age 70, on January 8, 2019. Mom was a wife, sister, and friend but first and foremost she was a mother!
Born in Port au Port/Piccadilly, NL, mom moved to Sydney at an early age with her family. Mom was the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Gale) Lang.
For many years mom worked as a cleaner but 11 years ago found her passion as a Lunch, Bus and Grounds Supervisor for the CBVRCE at Brookland Elementary School. When not keeping a watchful eye on the kids she could be seen with her great friend Leslie MacLean roaming the isles of Walmart or Giant Tiger for odds and sods before returning to work. Mom loved every minute and every child she came in contact with – treating them like her own! With some regret she decided to retire last year for health reasons. Missing the kids, she did volunteer on Friday’s for the breakfast program which put a smile on her face. Mom was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgoeys Parish and would often attend service with her dear friend, the late Vange Gaudet prior to her passing in late 2017.
Mom is survived by her husband, Melvin; sons, Sterling (Jill) and Darrell (Tara); sisters, Mabel, Pearl and Marie; grandson, Mathew and granddaughters, Emalee and Haley; along with many nieces and nephews. Living together mom built an impenetrable bond with Mathew and Emalee. However, it was Emalee with whom mom developed the greatest bond – a sister-like relationship full of stories, advice and tea drinking. Not to be forgotten are mom’s second family, Kurtis Maclean (Vanessa Viva) and Shana Gushue (Bryan) who mom loved deeply and was honored to be considered as their 3rd Grandmother. Finally, mom had a special place in her heart for Shana and Bryan’s 4 lovely boys, Jaxon, Brady, Cooper and Ty, who she loved and cared for deeply.
Mom was predeceased by her brothers, Tommy and Vince and sisters, Bridgette “Bride”, and Mary.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the staff of the Harbourview Hospital Rehabilitation Facility. We would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit who showed mom and us dignity and respect during the final stage. In keeping with mom’s wishes there will be no service or visitation, cremation has already taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to SW Chant & Son Funeral Home.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia Patsy Feener January 8 2019..
