Obituary for Ruth Irene Pitman
Pitman, Irene R. – 96, passed away on January 8, 2019 at Nakile Home for Special Care in Glenwood Yarmouth Co., N.S. Irene was born July 2, 1922 in Sable River, Shelburne County, N.S and was the daughter of the late Glen and Emily (Dunlop) Harlow. She worked as a nurse for 23 years at the Yarmouth Hospital. She was a faithful member of Zion United Baptist Church for over 70 years, where she sang in the choir and served as a Deacon. More recently she was a member of the Yarmouth North Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Gideon’s International, and UBWMU. She was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Pitman. She is survived by three sons: Glen (Diane) Bridgewater; David (Verna) and Richard (Joan) of Yarmouth and 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Saturday January 12, 2019 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Sunday January 13, 2019 at 2 P.M. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shawn Kehoe officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in Brooklyn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to Gideon’s International or the Yarmouth North Baptist Church.
