Wm STAN(ley) Whyte
September 26, 1931 – March 3, 2018
It is with profound sorrow that we announce that our father, Stan, loving husband to Doreen for 66 years, left us all this past Saturday morning.
The most important thing to Stan throughout his life was his wife, Doreen, and his family. He was always putting the needs and wishes of his loved ones before his own. He was a gentle caring man with a boundless concern for the well-being of humanity. No topic was ever off limits around him and he had a razor-sharp wit tinged with a modicum of sarcasm.
Stan was born in the small village of Bankfoot, Perthshire, Scotland. After graduating from Perth Academy, he joined the Royal Navy where he met his one true love, Doreen. Married at 19, they
raised three children. He left the service to come to Canada, first to Ontario and then to Comox.
Stan brought his family to Comox in 1968 when he started working as the Sole Charge Physiotherapist at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Overseeing the growth and expansion of those services at St. Joe’s for 23 years, he retired as Department Head. Often around town during his retirement, former patients would come up to him and even if he forgot their names, he always seemed to remember their injury.
Stan’s first sporting passion was for his tennis. For many years after arriving in Comox he was actively engaged in the sport. Golfing, particularly with his children, was a close second.
Stan is survived by his life-long love, Doreen, his sons Paul (Mary) and Andrew (Diane), and his daughter, Karen (Don, who left us all too soon), his sister, Moyra, his four grandsons, Steven, Jeremy, Alex and Duncan and his great grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Comox Valley Seniors Village for the loving care and attention that they provided to Stan for the last 2.5 years of his life. A further thank you to Dr. Brad Harris for his medical care.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
