William Kent Sedgwick
Unexpectedly on Monday November 26, 2018, Kent passed away peacefully in his residence at Red Deer, AB at the age of 76. He leaves behind daughter Marla (Gary) Lamoureux of Blackfalds, AB, and son Kyle of Red Deer, AB, proud Grand-PaPa to grandchildren Ava & Merrick (Lamoureux) of Blackfalds, AB. Kent is also survived by brother Larry (Helen) Sedgwick of Winnipeg, MB; mother-in-law Frances Penonzek of Gibsons, BC; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews around the country.
On June 1, 1968, Kent married his love, Marilyn (Penonzek) at Winnipeg, MB and shared almost 34 beautiful years together.
Kent was born in Elkhorn, MB in 1942 and grew up in the farming community of Manson. He attended Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, SK and participated in the hockey and boxing programs. Kent attained a degree from the University of Manitoba in Civil Engineering and certifications in Real Estate. He held positions with InterCity Gas and The Land Acquisition Branch with the Province of Manitoba before settling down with TransCanada Pipelines, which he retired from in 1989. The Sedgwick family then moved to Sioux Lookout, ON in the summer of 1990, where he ventured into entrepreneurship over the next six years. Kent was an avid member of The Masons and Shrine Clubs in Winnipeg and Sioux Lookout. In 1996 the family made the cross-country move to Alberta. While semi-retired in Red Deer, he helped care for Marilyn while balancing different Management roles with Jackpot Casino. When forever retirement came, Kent focused on his diabetes, getting involved with the residents at the lodge where he lived, and spending time with family and close friends. He adored his grandchildren and his beloved grand dogs, Jazy (Lamoureux) and Oakley (Sedgwick).
Some of his fondest memories are of shenanigans he got into over the years, at different times, with best friend Keith Hood, brother-in-law Larry Penonzek, and Adolph Sabeski.
Kent is pre-deceased by his wife Marilyn, parents Richard & Sara and sister Naomi (Sedgwick), father in law Louis ‘Louie’ (Penonzek), grand dog Buddy (Lamoureux), and other relatives on the Sedgwick, Lougheed, Penonzek and Sabeski sides.
If so desired, donations may be directed to the Canadian Diabetes Association in dad’s honour.
