Obituary of Wanita Dokis
Wanita Catherine Dokis passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Sunday January 27th, 2018 in her 60th year. Sadly missed by her sons Russell (Melissa) and Lionel (Emma), her partner Chummy, her grandchildren Devon (Katie), Addison, Damien and Jordan, her great-grandchildren Bronson and Cameron, her sister Carol, her brother Cameron (Blanche), her sister-in-law Marjorie, her Aunt Inez and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Russell and Vera, her sister Maxine and her brothers Warren, Howard (Lucille) and Brian (Barb).
Wanita was born in Peterborough and raised in Curve Lake First Nation and Pickering. She earned a diploma in social services from Loyalist College and moved to Dokis First Nation after she married to raise her family. There she served as a Councillor for eight years. She later returned to Curve Lake where she served on many committees as a community representative. Wanita had a strong faith in God and was fiercely dedicated to her family, friends and community.
A celebration of Wanita’s life will be held at the Curve Lake Community Church on Thursday February 1st, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at Curve Lake Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Curve Lake Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving back to the community in your own way, whether donating to the Curve Lake Church or the Benojee Sports Club, sharing your harvest with community members, or contributing your time as part of a committee.
