Walter Koren Avery
1921-2018
The family of Walter Koren Avery of
Grand Manan NB , wish to announce his passing on Sunday, December 2,
2018. Born in 1921 on Grand Manan Island, he was the son of the late
Harry Avery Sr and Violet Avery
(Brewster).
A WWII Veteran, Walter served in the
Royal Canadian Navy aboard the Corvette ship HMCS Mayflower and was a
lifetime member of Legion Branch#
44.
An active member of the North Head
Baptist Church, Walter leaves a legacy of faithfully serving his Lord
and Saviour. A love and talent for gospel music, Walter enjoyed
singing and playing guitar, especially his time with the
“Grand Manan Gospel
Notes”.
His working career was spent with the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans aboard the patrol boat Cumella.
Walter could fix anything, crafted beautiful boat carvings but above
all, was a great dad and
grampy.
Walter is survived by his daughters
Barbara Foote (Jackie) of Grand Manan NB, Elizabeth Wilson (Dale) of
Fredericton NB, his sons Grant Avery (Deborah) of Grand Manan NB, Paul
Avery (Carolyn) of St Andrews NB; 10 grandchildren, 10 great
grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews.
Predeceased by his wife Madeline
Avery (Chute) and siblings, sisters Jennie Wilson, Christine McCulley
and brother Harry Avery.
Visitation will be held at North Head
Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 7-9
pm.
A celebration of life will be held at
North Head Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 1 pm with
reception to follow.
Donations to the North Head Baptist
Church or donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the
family.
