Viola Jean Ogilvie
OGILVIE, Viola Jean
– Passed away surrounded by the love of her family and into the presence of her
Lord and Savior on Oct. 24, 2018 at Dundurn Place Care Centre. Jean, who was a lifelong resident of
Hamilton, had just celebrated her 87th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, David
and Viola (Bacon) Ogilvie, and her twin brother, Rev. David G. Ogilvie
(2013).
Lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Gladys Ogilvie and
family – Rev. David (Kim) Ogilvie, Burlington, ON, Susan (Ralph) Weber, Elmira,
ON, Bonnie (Joel) Vivian, Sarnia, ON, Rev. Robert (Bonnie) Ogilvie, Vancouver,
BC, and Glenn (Ami) Ogilvie, Woodstock, ON.
Aunt Jean will also be missed by her great nieces and nephews, as well as
extended family in Australia.
Jean worked for many years as a legal secretary, later as an
administrative assistant in an insurance office, and finally as a home support
worker, prior to her retirement. She
loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Caribbean
and across Canada. As a member of the
Hamilton Seniors Fun Choir, Jean so loved to travel and sing. She was active in three Baptist churches in
Hamilton over the years – King Street, James Street, and Harmony Baptist
Churches. Jean was also a “cat lover”
and shared her home for several years with her cat named Mebby.
A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Monday, October
29, at DODSWORTH & BROWN FUNERAL HOME, ROBINSON CHAPEL, 15 West Ave. N.,
Hamilton at 2:00 p.m. (Interment will be
held prior to the service). Refreshments
and an opportunity for sharing will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hamilton
Burlington SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
Jean’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and
thanks to the very kind and caring staff at Dundurn Place Care Centre.
