Vicky Forest
January 27, 1946 ~ August 30, 2018
After a life of courage and many adventures Vicky Forest passed away on August 30, 2018 at home surrounded by her beloved husband Allan, family and friends.
Her resilience through pain and suffering was inspiring for those she left behind. She encouraged her husband and family to understand her illness and helped them in many ways to let go after a debilitating heart disease. After many procedures and trips to the ER and St. Paul’s her body just gave out.
Vicky will be remembered for having a great sense of humor and the ability to just enjoy life to the limit. She had many travels over the years to Europe, Greece, Hong Kong, Macau, the Caribbean and her beloved Maui, where she and Allan were married on a beach.
Vicky graduated as a LPN from Brockville General Hospital in 1967 and had a varied and lengthy career. She spent her early years in the hospital and eventually broadened her horizons to become a manager in the Red Cross Home Care Program. Eventually Vicky became a Teacher of this program in Toronto where she taught at Centennial College and George Brown College. This led to working with the regulatory body for nurses at the Ontario College of Nurses.
She decided to move to BC where both of her children live and her twin granddaughters as well and made the trek out here in June of 2000.
While here she worked at We Care Home Health services for a little over 10 years, again as a manager of Home Support and nursing services. This position brought Vicky into contact with the Squamish Nation and she did the assessments for all the elders who required home care services. She visited them every month in North and West Van and the Squamish Valley. After a period of time Vicky and Allan decided to move to the Sunshine Coast and came over in 2009 and continued working until 2013 when she retired. Of course that was short lived and she met Caroline Gagne at a community meeting. Caroline is the owner of Home Healthcare Network and Vicky was the Client Care Manager on a part time basis.
During retirement she joined the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary where she became the Second vice, first vice and eventually the President of the Board. Vicky also became a member of BCAHA as Vice President. Her work with BCAHA allowed her to travel all around BC to local branches and meet with the members.
Vicky leaves behind her husband Allan, son Michael and his fiancé Kumi, her son Dan has twin daughters Kali and Tori, her sister Linda and husband Steve, her brother Randy and Linda’s two children Karen and her husband Stanley and son Syrus, Son Grant and his wife Jen and their two daughters Kristen and Lilly. Her step daughter Danielle and her children Xander, Callie and Ronan, step daughter Crystal.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC or the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary.
Vicky and Allan wish to thank Dr. Sarah Lasuta and Dr. Jesse Morantz for their care during her illness and also the staff of Sechelt Hospital emergency departments as well as CCU.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 29 at the KIN Hut (Kinsman Hall) at Dougall Park in Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast, starting at 1pm.
