Valerio Carmelo Dorigo 2018

OBITUARY
Valerio Carmelo Dorigo
July 17, 1931 – August 11, 2018
With heartfelt sadness, the family of Valerio Carmelo Dorigo announce his passing on August 11, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones.
Val was born in Col San Martino, Italy on July 17, 1931, to Narciso and Vittoria, the 4th of 6 children. Val came to Canada in his late 20’s, working for the railroad, as a stone mason. He met the love of his life, Patricia Stinn while building the Travelodge in Vernon, over 50 years ago. After living in Kamloops with his wife Pat for a few years, they moved back to Vernon where they raised their 6 children Bryan (Shelly), David (Gina), James (Shelley), Michelle, Gregory, and Monique(Jay). They have been blessed with 18 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Val worked passionately as a seasonal stone mason, and practiced his art around the world. You will see some of his beautiful mason work creations at several local churches and private homes. Val and Pat raised their family in several homes he built over the years, including an acreage in Okanagan Landing. Val’s favorite past-times were travelling with his family, telling stories of the old country, playing cards, making wine and searching for lost treasures in local dumpsters, which helped him support a family in India. Val’s creative and loving soul will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered for his generous contributions to the church, his community and his family. Prayer service will be at St. James Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 15th at 7:00pm and a funeral will be held on August 16th at 11:00am.
