Obituary Overview
GOURLAY, Valerie Margaret
Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the age of 73, with her children by her side.
Beloved Wife of the late Colin Gourlay. Loving Mother of Andrew, James (Kate) and Julie (Christian). Loving Grandmother of Lauren and Adam. She will be missed by her sister Sheila of Toronto and her brother David (Robyn) of Newmarket; her niece and nephew of Newmarket and her Aunts and Cousins in England.
Born in England, she came to Canada at the age of 8, and grew up in Peterborough Ontario. She became a school teacher, and moved to Ottawa to begin her career. She met and married her husband in Ottawa, then took a 15 year break from teaching to raise 3 children. She returned to teaching to become an Educational Assistant, working with children with special needs until she retired.
She enjoyed doing many things, but she loved gardening. She spent many hours tending her beautiful gardens and was also a volunteer with Friends of the Farm.
We will miss our Mom immensely. She will also be missed by her many friends and neighbours.
A Celebration of Valerie’s Life will be held at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Dr., Ottawa, ON (613-692-1211) on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with Word of Remembrance at 4:00 p.m.
In Memoriam donations to the charity of your choice that helps children are appreciated.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Valerie Margaret Gourlay 2018..
