Obituary Overview
Valerie Louise Auton
Valerie Louise Auton
On Thursday, Feb. 22nd, 2018, Valerie Louise Morash Auton, aged 93 years old, passed into the loving arms of her heavenly Father at Arborstone Enhanced Care where she had resided for the past two months. Prior to that she had been lovingly cared for at home by Alvin, her devoted and loving husband. Valerie was the beloved wife of Alvin for over 75 years and beloved mother of Ernie (Cathy), Alvin, Wayne (Edith), Faith (Dwight), and Hope (Jim), and grandmother to 11 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 22 great-grandchildren. Val was an amazingly gifted and resilient woman who had experienced the Great Depression as a young child, lived through a war as a young bride and mother, supported Alvin in his business endeavors, was a very present mother to her 5 children, experienced mental health challenges in mid-life, and yet persevered through it all. Val was an exceptional seamstress who took classes in hat making, and in accounting and business, and was well known for her superb culinary skills and gift of hospitality, and you were very fortunate indeed if you were the lucky recipient of one of her amazing home-made desserts! In addition to family, Val and Al were devoted to serving in their church community at Full Gospel Church. Val sang in the choir until 5 years ago, taught Sunday School, was a leader in the Women’s Missionary Circle, and joyfully brought her gifts of organization and delicious food making to bear in her role for many years as the Social Convener. Although Val had a strong sense of fashion who loved nothing better than to get dressed up, she also thoroughly enjoyed going hunting with Al, and the two of them spent many a day picking berries all over Nova Scotia. Val had a serious green thumb and experienced deep pleasure and satisfaction from her garden in Lockeport and at her home in Halifax. She was an avid reader, a lover of music, a disciplined walker, a woman who had dreams for herself and her children, a woman of faith, a woman who surmounted her challenges, a woman known to be feisty, a woman who knew how to make ends meet creatively, and a woman who could laugh and love. She will be so missed. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. Valerie’s family thank all of her friends and extended family for their love and support during this time and invite everyone celebration of her life on Monday, February 26th at 11:00 at Full Gospel Church, 2256 Larry Uteck Blvd, Bedford, N.S.
