Theodore (Ted) Donald Waytowich
1940 – 2018
Sadly on December 6, 2018, with his family by his side Ted passed away at Oakview Place Extendicare Nursing Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary and brother Alex. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years Joan, son Jim (Joanne), daughter Brenda (Hans), grandchildren Cassandra, Victoria, Hunter and his fur baby Teddy. Siblings Sylvia, Sonya, and Dale.
Ted was born on August 10, 1940, in Shoal Lake, Mb and at an early age he moved to Winnipeg. Ted graduated from Gordon Bell High School where he met Joan. In his early teen years, he played baseball at Oriol’s Community Club and football with the Gordon Bell Panthers.
He was employed with Air Canada for 32 years. Ted loved all sports, bowling both 5 and 10 pin, playing fastball in the Industrial league with Air Canada Canadian Order of Foresters and EMCO. In 1963, he played in the men’s Senior League for the Molson Canadians. In 1967, the team travelled to Saskatoon and became the Canadian Champions. In 1968, the team travelled to Oklahoma City to play in the World Fastball Tournament, placing second. His career ended as a member of the St. Vital Flocking Ducks. Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing (Game & Fish Club), playing golf, curling and camping with his family. Travelling to Mesa, AZ for many winters and sightseeing in Europe gave Ted the opportunity to experience different cultures and sample a variety of wine. He was a member of the Free Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners and Eastern Star. Ted had many friends who he enjoyed spending time with. He was always ready to help anyone who needed it. Ted’s pride and joy was his family and especially his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Place, especially Dr. Gilmore, the nurses and caregivers on the second floor. Thank you for all the kindness that you gave to Ted and his family during his years at the home. We truly do appreciate all that you did for us. Thank you to all the residents and family members that became his friends Ted really enjoyed being with you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on December 19, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ted to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, or Oakview Place Extendicare.
