TERRANCE (TERRY) ARTHUR CORNETT
SR.
With heavy hearts, the family of Terrance (Terry) Arthur
Cornett Sr., age 72, sadly announce his passing on the afternoon of
November 2, 2018, in the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his
family.
Terry was born on October 25th, 1946
in New Glasgow to Arthur and Beatrice (MacPherson) Cornett. Terry
loved to share stories and spoke fondly of his early childhood
adventures while growing up in MacLellan’s Mountain and
Issac’s Harbour which had always remained two of his
favorite places. Terry split his high school years between East Pictou
and Stellarton High. His passion for cars convinced him to continue on
to obtain his mechanics license from TUNS.
On November 1st 1969, Terry married
the love of his life Joeann Kontuk. Together they raised a son and a
daughter.
Terry began his mechanic career with Market Square Motors
(now Herron GM) and other dealerships before starting work at the Esso
in Blue Acres in 1970 for Myrna and the late Elmer MacPherson, who
have remained life long friends. Terry stayed there as a mechanic
until 1985 when he took over management of the Esso. He managed the
Esso until 1998, when he then left to open TJ’s auto service
just across the street. Terry ran TJ’s auto
service until 2006, when he was asked to manage 3D Auto. Terry
remained there until 2011 when he had to leave work due to a heart
procedure. Although Terry’s desire to return to work was
there, his health wouldn’t allow him.
Terry missed work greatly, mostly missing socializing with
his friends, customers, past and present coworkers and employees.
Terry was humbled when contacted by past employees (which happened
often) to thank him for giving them their first job.
Terry was a long time donor to various local Fire
Departments, Pictou County Food Bank and other county charities,
always wanting to help out when he could.
Terry had many things he was passionate about and although
the Montreal Canadiens was one of the obvious ones, his greatest
passion was his family and especially his
grandchildren.
He will be tremendously missed by his close family and
friends, especially his son and “pal” Terry Jr, who
would do anything in the world for him. He has been by his side
unconditionally through everything– good or bad. Terry not
only lost his Dad, he lost his best friend.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joeann
(Kontuk), son Terrance (Terry) Cornett Jr. (Staci) and their children
Cassidy, Madison and Caden. Daughter Marjorie, and her
daughters Macayla and Torrance.
Terry is also survived by his sister Hilda Greene, Pictou,
Brothers Roy (Donna) MacLellans Brook, and brother Bernie, Toronto. He
is also leaving behind many nieces and nephews which he loved dearly,
and chosen family members Kathy Nickerson and Taylor McLean who he
thought the world of, and special chosen daughter Darlene MacLean who
was a constant support in his life over the years, and who he loved
and thought of as one of his own.
Terry was predeceased by his mother, father and his
grandmother Hilda Clyburn (who raised him after his mother’s
early passing), his sister Florence and Brother John, as well as
brothers and sisters in infancy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the
nurses, doctors and staff on the 4th floor of
the Aberdeen Hospital for always going out of your way to make Terry
and us feel comfortable and at ease. We would also like to thank the
staff of the Pictou Landing First Nations Medical Centre for always
taking the time for Terry and for helping in more ways than you know
and to Dr. Cathy for everything she has done for Terry over the years,
and going above and beyond her duty as a doctor and as a lifelong
friend.
Visitation will be on Wednesday November
7th, 2-4 and 7-9 at H.W. Angus Funeral Home in
New Glasgow and service will be on Thursday, November
8th at 11:00 am also at the H.W. Angus Funeral
Home with committal to follow in the Springville
cemetery.
After the committal there will be a celebration of
Terry’s life at the Eureka Fire Hall. All are
welcome.
Donations can be made in Terry’s name to a charity
of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Terrance Arthur Cornett 19462018..
