Sylvain Joseph Francois Routhier
Sergeant Sylvain Joseph Francois Routhier (age 37) took his life on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018, after a brief battle with mental illness. Husband of Sarah (Smith) and father of Jacob, Nicholas, and Emily. Son of Jacques Routhier and Lucie Marcotte (Anjou, Quebec) and son-in-law of Geoff and Sharon (Tardiff) Smith (Summerstown, Ontario). Brother of Guillaume (Catherine Castonguay) and Josée (John Pradier). Grandson of Gilles Marcotte and Thérèse Brunet. Brother-in-law to Jamie and Lesley (Joyce) Smith and uncle to Charlotte, Austin, Alicia, Louis, Liam, Jules, and Paul. Predeceased by grandparents Madeleine Trudeau, Jacques Routhier (Sr.), Jean Lenghan and uncle Claude Routhier.
Sylvain was a proud officer (13 years) with the Ontario Provincial Police and member of the Ontario Provincial Police Association. Sylvain’s career included service at the Lambton County, Napanee and Quinte West Detachments and member of the Central and Eastern TRU (Tactics and Rescue Unit) teams.
Sylvain was a dedicated and proud father and husband, avid Montreal Canadians fan, who enjoyed fishing, hockey, and camping. Sylvain was committed to physical fitness and coaching minor hockey.
Arrangements entrusted to the Burke Funeral Home (613-968-6968), 150 Church St., Belleville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
Funeral mass will be celebrated from the Yardmen Arena, 265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, on Wednesday, August 8 at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jacob, Nicholas, and Emily Routhier Trust Fund (via Burkes Funeral Home) or the GoFundMe.com campaign would be greatly appreciated.
