Susan was predeceased by her Mother, Nellie (Burke) Cornick, Father, Roderick Cornick and baby sister Barbara.
Susan will be fondly remembered and loved by many nieces and nephews, especially her two special boys Cooper and Ben Lacroix, Bedford, NS. They were her chosen “grandsons” who brought tremendous joy to her life.
Susan was always a fiercely independent person. Early in her life she was determined to be self reliant and realized that education would be the key to achieving this. After graduating from Roncalli Central High, Port au Choix in 1973 she attended Memorial University of Newfoundland. She graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education.
During the summer months of her university years she worked at the Port au Choix National Historic Site in as a tour guide. This led her to a career of 34 years with Parks Canada from which she retired in January, 2015.
It was while working at Gros Morne National Park that Susan met the love of her life, Bruce in October, 1982. They were married at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Dartmouth on December 29, 1983.
Susan was a devoted parishioner of Saint Paul’s Parish. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Women’s Association and a leader of the Knitting Circle. Over the years she became friends with other parishioners who will miss her labourious contributions to their fund raisers and socials. They will especially miss her entertaining dry humour.
Susan was very proud of her Indigenous heritage and her Newfoundland roots. She loved nothing better then dancing to a Newfie Jig. Just this past August she danced her brother Ben off the dance floor with him saying, “Sus, all that walking has sure paid off”. We hope that she is now dancing in heaven with her Mom and Dad.
It is so hard to say goodbye to you my best friend, wife and buddy who has been by my side through all our life adventures. You loved going on our many hikes, to numerous plays and just hanging out at coffee shops with me and I loved having you with me. Susan, your presence and support simply made my life better, and I gratefully thank you. Your loving husband, Bruce.
A mass celebrating Susan’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 199 Windmill Rd., Dartmouth on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 10 AM.
