OBITUARY
Subhash Karnik
March 4, 1940 – November 16, 2018
Dr. Subhashchandra Moreshwar Karnik, born March 4, 1940, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018 at the University of Alberta Hospital. Subhash is lovingly remembered by his wife, Medha, two sons, Nachiket (Nicole) and Gautam and two grandchildren Sophia and Marlee.
Born in Pune, India, Subhash completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1963 and Master of Arts in Pure Mathematics in 1966 both with first class honours from Siddharth College. He was a lecturer in Siddharth college and Ruparel college in Mumbai. He moved to Canada in 1968 to study topology and completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics in 1974 from University of Alberta.
As a math professor he taught at University of Alberta, McMaster University and Riyadh
University. Subhash moved to Grande Prairie in 1985 to teach at the Grande Prairie
Regional College, where he influenced and excellently taught many students from the
Peace Country Region until his retirement in 2010.
His passion for teaching math was equally paralleled by his love of ancient Sanskrit
literature and Hindu philosophy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 24, 2018 at 10:00 am at
Hainstock’s 9810-34 Avenue NW.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Subhash’s name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, University Hospital Foundation, Covenant Health or to the charity of your choice.
