OBITUARY
Sr. Faustina Margaret Grant
April 10, 1925 – October 28, 2018
Sister Faustina Grant (Sister Saint Faustina) CND
The Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame announce with deep sorrow and regret the death of Sister Faustina Grant (Sr. St. Faustina) on October 28, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, N.S. Sister Faustina was born in Heatherton, the daughter of the late Duncan W. Grant and Margaret (Jane MacDonald) Grant.
Sister Faustina entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1945 and made her religious profession on August 20, 1947 in Montreal. Her many years of service in the Congregation of Notre Dame were spent as a teacher, specializing in Home Economics. She taught in Montreal, Sydney, Mabou, Port Hood, Judique and Antigonish at both the Antigonish High and the Regional High Schools. In Judique and Port Hood, she was instrumental in initiating the 4-H Programs for junior high students and held evening classes for adults.
In Antigonish, she served on the Parish Council and did home visitations both in the Town and County. For 21 years, Sister Faustina was the Sacristan at the Highland Crest Home in Antigonish. She was always filled with joy and laughter and brought these gifts to the home along with “homemade” preserves to the guests. Her neighbors, as well, on Greening Drive were also the recipients of these gifts and Sister’s joyful presence.
Sister Faustina was well equipped academically for her professional life as a teacher. A graduate of St. F.X. with a B.Sc. in Home Economics and a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut, she continued further post-graduate studies in the area of Family Life Education. Sister Faustina spent her last few years in retirement at Parkland Cape Breton where she appreciated the kindness of the staff, the companionship of the guests, and the peace which permeated the residence. She, herself, brought to Parkland the same gifts of laughter, thoughtfulness and generosity which characterized her entire life.
Sister Faustina is survived by her brother, Duncan J. Grant of Toronto and several nieces and nephews in Halifax, Portland, Maine, Ottawa, Toronto, British Columbia and Texas.
Besides her parents, Sister Faustina was predeceased by her six sisters, Flora, Mary, Isabelle, Claire, Anna and Winnie and by four brothers: Benny, Barry, Rory and Daniel.
