Obituary
On the morning of Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Dorothy Viola Siler passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 95 years. Dorothy was one of seven children born to Russell and Josephine Simmons.
Dorothy was born on November 18, 1922 at home in rural Saskatchewan, near Gull Lake. Dorothy loved to quilt and cross stitch and spent many hours doing both crafts. She loved playing scrabble and completing crosswords. Mom was very much a people person and many loved to visit her. Her sunny disposition lit up her room and made it a warm and inviting place to be. Dorothy’s friendly and smiling face will be missed by all of us.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her children; Ferne (Tom) Kilpatrick and Jim (Vickey) Siler as well as her grandchildren; Jason, Tracy, Jill and Tom. She also leaves her great grandchildren; Cody, Jessica, Haley, Karson and Caleb and one beloved great great grandson, Cole. Dorothy leaves one sister Ruth in Detroit, Michigan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Matt, as well as two sisters and three brothers. The family would especially like to thank Bonnie Gunther, who shared many of Mom’s interests and for all the care she gave Mom over the years of their friendship. Thank you also to Dr. Kari Nishi for her compassionate care for Mom in her final days.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Mark Memorial Community Funeral Home, 2024 Industrial Road No. 2, Cranbrook at 11:00 am. Dorothy will be interred in the Kimberley Cemetery with her husband in the Spring. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, 13 – 24th Ave. N., Cranbrook, BC V1C 3H9.
