Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
Our loving wife, mother, sister, Lola, Tita, friend and classmate Shirley Severino Escanlar passed away peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
Shirley is reunited with her mother Estrella, father Mabini and her siblings Suzy and Siegfried and her beloved Nanay, Petra and Tita Pat.
Left to cherish Shirley’s memory is her husband of 57 years Modesto; her children Pat, Phil, Jo (John), Gina (Lorie), sister Sandra (Paulino), brother Steve (Lorna), and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Shirley’s greatest pride and joy are her ‘Apo’ Dylan, Michael, Samantha, Emmy, Lucas and Sydney.
Shirley will be forever remembered for her love of family, friends and her faith in God.
Shirley was an avid sports fan, cheering on her Riders from her seat at the 55 yard line for 49 years.
Shirley was happiest when her family returned to Regina, gathered around the kitchen table, shared stories, laughed and ate all of her lumpia.
We will never forget the countless memories of cross country road trips; how much she loved to walk; drop pennies at the “big house”; enjoy a delicious dim sum; shuffle tiles in Mahjong; visit her grandchildren; and dance the Tango with her one and only love of her life.
Shirley’s humble beginnings started in Silay City in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines.
Shirley excelled academically graduating from the Silay Institute and completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas in 1958. As a scholar, she was afforded an opportunity to work and study at the University of Texas in Galveston.
Eventually, she settled in Cleveland, Ohio where she and Modesto married.
Professional opportunity led her young family to Regina where Shirley retired as a surgical nurse from the Regina General Hospital.
Shirley has been very supportive of the immigrant community; and in 1967 was one of the first ten families and founding members of the Philippine Association of Saskatchewan.
A PRAYER SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, on Thursday, December 20, 2018 7:00 p.m.
A FUNERAL MASS will be celebrated at Christ the King R.C. Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the many friends and extended family that prayed and offered mass for Shirley. To the caregivers who compassionately cared for her, your healing hands and mindfulness to keep Shirley free from pain will forever be appreciated.
We want to particularly extend our gratitude to the Filipino community whose respectful support through faith, prayer and nourishment has been eternally appreciated.
