Peacefully at the Loch Lomond Village Nursing Home, Shirley Marie (Gillis) Mackin, devoted wife of 51 years to the late Paul Mackin, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior in her 83rd year on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Cyril and Eileen (Carty) Gillis.
Shirley lived her life as a very caring, loving, generous and giving person. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in 1956 and worked at the DVA and St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was known as a hard worker, mastering anything she set her mind to. Shirley was truly devoted to her family and her faith having been a member of the Cathedral for many years.
Shirley is survived by her sons: Andrew (Kyria) Mackin and Stephen Mackin both of Saint John, brother Paul Gillis and sister Margaret Mary Gaudet. She is also survived by her grandson Robyn and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Shirley is predeceased by her brother David and sister Theresa Cummings, sister in-law Sarah and brother in-law Ron.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of the Loch Lomond Village for their care and compassion shown towards Shirley throughout the last few years.
Visitation will take place at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road on Sunday, December 9th between 2-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 10th 2018 at 12:10 PM from the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
