Sheila Mae Spooner
On the morning of December 8th, 2018, Sheila Mae Spooner returned with the Creator to the spirit world at 60 years of age.
Born May 8th, 1958 to Alberta Spooner & Donald Harper, she spent her early years living in Matlock, Manitoba with brothers Wallace, Douglas, Thomas and Alberta’s husband James. Married to Tim Richards in 1976, the two shared nearly 25 years together, remaining supportive friends after their paths took them in different directions.
She thrived in a lifelong and distinguished career with the Winnipeg School Division, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. She served as a teacher, vice principal, principal and consultant while also sharing her leadership and insight at Manitoba Education and Manitoba Teachers Society. She proudly inspired students and peers with her own experiences as an Indigenous person, helping to introduce Indigenous perspectives into the public school system.
Sheila will be fondly remembered by those she leaves behind as a truly special individual with a sharp sense of humour, dedicated work ethic, creative flair, warm caretaker’s heart, and fierce love of friends and family.
A gathering to celebrate Sheila’s life will take place on Monday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m. in the Friendship Centre at 425 Eveline St. in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Sheila Mae Spooner May 8 1958 December 8 2018 (age 60)..
