Marsh was born on October 4th, 1931 in Vegreville Alberta to John and Ann Severyn. In 1951 he met his wife Mary Morrison who was a clerk at the CPR station and they married in October a year later. They returned to live in Nelson where Marsh continued his hockey career with the WIHL Maple Leafs. They had 5 sons together.
Marsh and Mary loved Nelson. His employment started with the Nelson Police in 1955 and he worked with the police for the next 5 years. An exceptional athlete, Marsh played both hockey and baseball. He played Jr. hockey in Wetaskiwin and Calgary and Sr. hockey in Anchorage and Nelson. He coached minor baseball and hockey and won the BC Bantam Championship in 1969. He also won the Savage Cup as the coach of the Nelson Maple Leafs in 1970-71.
His other passion, baseball, led him to play Sr. Baseball in the Saskatchewan baseball league and attended the Brooklyn Dodgers camp in 1950. As a pitcher he was assigned to their ‘AAA’ affiliate in El Paso, Texas.
His catholic faith was very important to him and he served on the St. Joseph School Board and the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate Parish counsel in Nelson.
