David Walter Schafer, of Durham, passed away at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound on Sunday, October 28th, 2018 in his 73rd year. Beloved husband of Linda Schafer (nee McGillivray). Loving father of Brad Schafer and his wife Roberta of Kitchener, Nicole and her husband Chris Caldwell of Burlington, Jana and her husband Ryan Poechman of Guelph, and Renee Schafer of Kitchener. Cherished Poppa of Ally, Hazel, Wendel and Lauren. Dear brother of Liz and her husband Jerry Kueneman of Hanover, John and his wife Ev of Balsam Lake, Dorothy Mead of Durham, Larry and his wife Dianne of Hanover, Gerry of Toronto, Carl and his wife Lucretia of Durham, and Michael and his wife Diane of Ithaca, New York. Brother-in-law of Anne and her husband Scott Vrooman of Mount Forest, Kathy and her husband Gordon Calder of Mount Forest, and Ted McGillivray and his wife Debbie of Durham. Fondly remembered by Amy Lahn as well as his many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Catherine Schafer, his sister Catherine, his brother-in-law Orville Mead, his parents-in-law Alex and Pauline McGillivray, and his sister-in-law Marie and her late husband Don Neuman.
Visitation:
Friends may call at the Durham Community Centre, 451 Saddler Street West, Durham on Thursday, November 1st from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.
Celebration of Life::
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Durham Community Centre on Friday at 1 p.m.
Donations:
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Diamond Project, Durham Curling Club, or West Grey Minor Hockey would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
