Obituary for
Rupert John Eavis
It is with great sadness the family of Rupert John Eavis, 84, formerly of Stratford, announce his passing on Monday November 5, 2018. John passed away peacefully at his residence, Hillside Manor, in the township of Perth East.
Loving father of Stephanie Ruth Eavis, Shannon-Lee Eavis and step-daughter Heather Elizabeth Richards (Kevin). Proud and loving Poppa of Raygen Irene Eavis and Nicholas John Eavis.
John was born on February 12, 1934, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. He was a proud veteran of the Second World War, and served his country in the Merchant Navy. He immigrated to Canada in 1973, settling in Ontario.
John, known as “Jack” to his friends and coworkers, was a Millwright by trade and in his early years he worked in such places as, England, South Africa, and Winnipeg, Canada. While in Ontario, John worked for the Bruce Nuclear Power Plant, the Pickering Power Plant and Ontario Hydro. He dedicated 35 years of service to his trade and retired in 1991. John was a skilled labourer and loved to build things with his hands. While he lived in Winnipeg he built himself a cabin, made furniture, and did all renovations to his properties over the years by himself. He was a hardworking man who took pride in and enjoyed his work. Upon his retirement, John’s favourite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren Raygen and Nicholas who were his pride and joy.
John moved into Hillside Manor in January of 2017, due to his declining health. He battled kidney disease for almost 10 years having to go for dialysis every other day. A special thank you goes out to the staff at Hillside Manor for your exceptional care and compassion during John’s time with you.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, John has been cremated. There will be no visitation, or funeral service. If you would like to make a donation to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in memory of John, you may do so directly, at www.kidney.ca or through Rutherford Cremation and Funeral Services at www.rutherford@jarfh.com.
