On behalf of Squamish Nation Council and Band Manager it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rozeanna ‘Rosie’ Alanamaria Lewis on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Lions Gate Hospital. She was surrounded by love of family and friends. Rosie was born on June 6, 1972 to her parents Rosalind (nee Lewis) and Francis Joe and descends from the Canute/Joe and Andrew/Lewis families. Rosie grew up on Capilano IR No. 5 and attended Norgate Elementary Community School and Keith Lynn Alternate Secondary School. At a young age Rosie received cultural and traditional teachings from her elders and family; later in life she never hesitated to teach new or young learners about long house, canoe or shaker church. Rosie was also known as a “go-to” person with her peers. Anyone in need of support or assistance Rosie would advocate on their behalf weather it was with the nation, the community shelter or anywhere else in an effort to make somebody’s day easier. Rosie is survived by and will be dearly missed by her mom Rosalind Nahanee (nee: Lewis); father Francis Joe; special dad Larry Nahanee; siblings Francis Clifford Lewis (Milissa), Lena May Nahanee (Dave), Samuel Larry Nahanee (Sarah), Bronson George, Clifford George, Dakota George and Yvette Bruno; children Stephanie Alana Audrey Charlie, Daniel Peter Buddy Charlie, Jessica Jane Joe-Anne Marie Charlie; granddaughter Lucy Alana Rose Charlie-Susut; nieces Mabel Nahanee, Alyssa Johnny and Roberta Lewis; special sisters & brothers Ellen Mathias Joe, Cheyanne Nahanee, Leah ‘Tia’ Baker, Naomi Cayou, Andy Lewis and Kiy’uls Waylon ‘Bo’ Baker. Family would like to acknowledge and thank the North Shore Lookout Shelter staff and family for their support.
