It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy William Quesnel, 92, of Lumby BC, on Monday October 1, 2018 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He was surrounded by close family and friends.
Roy was born March 31, 1926 to Armand and Marjory (Tedder) Quesnel; he was predeceased by his infant daughter Marjory, sister Rhea Peterkin, and wife Thelma (Brett).
As a young man, Roy enjoyed cowboying for various local ranches, and during that time he made many great memories – he would happily detail those memories over a hot whiskey. Roy enjoyed a lifetime of hard work and perseverance, which served him very well in the cattle industry. Spring to Fall, Roy could most often be sighted riding a well broke horse with his faithful dog at his side, motivating a group of Hereford cows and calves along one of the many roads or trails in the Harris Creek area; winters were spent feeding those very same cows with a pickup full of square bales.
Equal to Roy’s passion for ranching was his love and admiration for his wife Thelma, who made Roy’s passion a successful reality. Amidst the busyness of ranching and raising their own children, they found time and energy to volunteer as leaders of the Lumby 4H Beef Club; as leaders, they promoted education and passion for agriculture while at the same time creating a culture of community.
Roy is survived by his two sons Douglas (Laurie) of Nanaimo and Robert of Lumby; grandchildren Scott, Jason (Janna), Jennifer, Cameron (Denver), Candace (Brendan), and Clint (Dionne) as well as 10 great grandchildren.
Roy’s final wishes parallel his inherently quiet nature and, as such, no funeral service will be held. Thank you to the staff at VJH who cared for Roy during his stay and a special thank you to Stephanie Clayton for all of your assistance, especially during the last two months – Roy was fortunate to have such dedicated friends!
