OBITUARY
Roy Nicholson
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Roy (Butch) Emerson Nicholson on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Glace Bay General Hospital, Glace Bay after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on April 20, 2018.
Born in Birch Grove on November 28, 1938. He was the son of the late Daniel and Janie (Smith) Nicholson.
Butch loved being in the company of his family and friends especially his sisters. He was an electrician for 37 years with Lynk Electric. He retired in 1998. He was involved with the Birch Grove Fire Department for many years. He loved watching his grandchildren play hockey. He loved being out at the bungalow in Mira with family and friends. He loved to go fishing and camping. For many years he was involved with the Glace Bay men’s bowling league.His life was devoted to his family, especially his late wife Beverly, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Rhonda (Peter) Byrne, Glace Bay, son Daniel (Shelley) Nicholson, St. Peter’s; grandchildren Tyler, Patrick, Leah and Landon. Sisters Audrey Burke, Glace Bay, Jean McInnis, Glace Bay, Peggy (Bill ) Hummer, Birch Grove, Florence (Freeman) Vokey, Glace Bay; brother Murray Nicholson, Birch Grove, Brother in law Vernon MacDonald, Birch Grove, Sister in law Helen Nicholson, Glace Bay. Many nieces and nephews especially Allan Nicholson who always checked in on him.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years who recently passed away herself (May 30, 2018), his parents, brothers Allan, Wesley and Donald (Nick), sisters Neila and Mora.
Visitation will be held at Patten’s Funeral Home, Union Street, Glace Bay, Saturday, June 16th 2018 from 12pm-2pm. Service to immediately follow, 2:00pm at Patten’s Funeral Home. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.
