Remembering Ronny
Ronny Carmichael died in his home on October 1, 2018. He was 83 years old.
Ronny is survived by his sister, Jayrene (Bill); three sons, George (Sonja), Donald and Gary (Diana); and four grandchildren, Lindsay, Scott, Zachary, and Jake. He is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel; and his brother, Neil (Doris).
Ronny was born on September 4th, 1935 in Toronto to James and Irene. Early in his life, he joined the engineering corps of the Canadian Forces (1956-65). It was at Camp Wainwright where he met Isabel Matthewson — his future wife. After the military, Ronny and Isabel moved to Edmonton, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Ronny worked as a draftsman at Interprovincial Pipelines until his retirement in 1995.
In retirement, sitting on his porch swing while playing guitar was Ron’s favourite pastime. Over the years, he accumulated a large collection of movies, which he would watch every night with one of his sons. He had an ttention for detail in everything he managed: budgeting grocery lists or car repairs, umpiring, drafting blue prints for house renovations, and archiving the family tree. Everyone who knew or met Ron would say he was a “nice guy”. He will be missed.
