Obituary for
Ron Lougheed
Peacefully in the early morning hours of September 19, 2018, Ron passed away at the Palliative Care Unit at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, Manitoba. Ron was born on March 24, 1937 to Ernie and Lena Lougheed at Deloraine, Manitoba. He grew up in the Regent area, completing grade 10, and then moving on to Winnipeg. He started his career with Anglo Oil, later becoming Royalite, Gulf and Petro-Canada. This career spanned 35 years, taking him to the communities of Winnipeg, Boissevain, Plumas, Gladstone, Grandview and Melita. Ron retired in 1995 and moved to Brandon in 2011 following health problems. Ron married Elaine Cathcart, a girl he had met on a blind date, on March 24, 1962. Together they raised their three children – Bruce, Sheila and Grant. Ron had many interests during his life. He enjoyed curling, baseball, camping, horse races and traveling. He was an umpire for the Grandview Lakers, draw master for the curling club and spent many hours volunteering his time with various organizations. In their retirement, Ron and Elaine spent 15 years wintering in Arizona, participating in many shuffleboard tournaments. They enjoyed their time spent in the warm weather and meeting many people along the way. Time back home was spent entertaining the grandkids with his teasing nature. Ron also has a huge soft spot in his heart for the dogs in his life. He would spend hours spoiling his pets with treats and taking them for rides around town. Due to brain aneurysm in 2011, Ron spent almost 3 years in Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon. With the loving support of Elaine, Ron was able to move home. They spent many hours playing crib and other games and enjoying their time together. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine; son Bruce (Heather) of Melita, their children Kyle and partner Jill Combs, Cullen, Riley and Rachelle; daughter Sheila (Don) Smith of Plumas and their children Kristen and Justin Sawchuk and Kara; son Grant (Brenda) of Storthoaks, Saskatchewan, and their children Stephanie and Matt Johnson, Justin and Jake.
