Ronald James Varnes
Ron passed away May 7, 2018 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 90 with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Eileen, his daughter Valerie Kramble (Boyd), his son Rick (Sigrid), his grandchildren Scott (Kara) and Chris (Michelle) Street, Rhonda (Jason) and Mathew Varnes, great-grandchildren Brienna, Turner, Zach, Landon and Rowyn Street, brothers Gerald (Irene) and Crawford Varnes, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Art and Allan, sister Thelma, sisters-in-law Doreen and Irene and brother-in-law Stanley Smolinski.
His first job was with CP Rail, a job he truly loved, but an accident ended that job. He worked over 30 years with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Rec and retired from Forestry. After retiring they moved to Winnipeg Beach where he spent many happy summers and wintered in Texas at Magic Valley Park. The last four years they have resided at Concordia Village.
Ron loved all sports and games and was an ardent fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was also a long time member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and trusted friend. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital for the excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
