Obituary of Rod Brown
Rod passed away suddenly on September 11, 2018 in Kitchener, Ontario. Born on March 16, 1953, Port Arthur, Ontario.
Loving and proud father to Emma Jane, brother to Sharon, brother-in-law to Denes and uncle to Nick, Rod will be missed by his family and friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Bill Brown and Mary (Kelly) Brown.
Rod was a kind, loving and good humoured man who took great pride in raising his daughter. Acting as a stand-in dad to many of Emma’s childhood friends, he was integral in many young lives and will be dearly missed.
A proud graduate of Queens University ( Faculty of Arts ‘77 and Faculty of Education, ‘78) he spent the better part of his career in the insurance field, (State Farm, Economical, CGU, ING ) and appreciated the camaraderie of his friends and colleagues.
Rod loved music and one could usually find him at his happiest listening to classic rock in the sun or in the car with his family, having them guess the artist.
A former avid hockey player, his love of sport never wavered, and people still recall his Blue Jays and Maple Leaf tattoos on his chest.
Witnessing the Blue Jays’ world-series game-winning hit in the 1993 World Series would likely have been one of his best memories. That was only trumped by having to listen to a prior game on the radio having left the Dome early because his daughter had finished her hot dog and was too tired to see its conclusion.
He wore being Emma’s dad like a badge of honour, and will carry that with him always.
He was a funny, loveable human being and he will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Visitation to celebrate Rod’s life life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday September 18, 2018 from 3-5 p.m. Condolences for the family and donations may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
