With sadness the family of Dick Gillespie wishes to announce his passing on January 8, 2018, his 83rd birthday.
Dick was born in Daysland Alberta on January 8, 1935 to Lorne and Edna Gillespie.
He had 2 younger brothers Douglas and James (Jim) and two younger sisters, Maxine and Karen.
He went on to marry his childhood sweetheart Patricia (Pat) Spiller on July 16, 1956.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, his wife Pat and his younger brother Doug.
Dick is survived by his brother Jim(Molly), his sister Maxine(Bob) Bennett and Karen(Willard) Spragge.
He also leaves behind his children, Brad(Cathy), Kathy(Rhett) Czaban, and Patti(Darren) Hansen as well as grandchildren Scott, Marc, Sean, Zac, Nyah and Kail.
Dick wore many hats and accomplished many things in his life, as Mayor, Husband, Father, Justice of the Peace, Businessman, Brother and Son, but the hat he was most proud of was that of “Grandpa”.
He was a Shriner and an active volunteer on the Board of Directors for Community Futures, the Alberta Motor Association and countless other organizations throughout the years.
Dick and Pat moved to Valleyview in 1970 and made it their home. He began working for Fahlman Department Stores at that time.
He then purchased and operated Raven Motor Inns, the Shamrock Hotel, Valleyview Answering Service and Bradick and Company.
Anyone who knew Dick will tell you that he contributed greatly to his community and loved his family.
