OBITUARY
Raymond Marvin Lipkewich
January 26, 1938 – May 27, 2018
Ray passed away peacefully and in the presence of family, at 80 years old. Ray was the oldest son of Jim and Eva Lipkewich and grew up on a farm near Lamont. He served 3 years with the RCAF before he attended the faculty of Engineering at the U of A. Ray began his career in the Oil & Gas Industry with Shell in Edmonton. Shell relocated their offices to Calgary in 1971, where he later met his wife Sharon. They were married in 1976 and had two children, Sonya and Jeff, whom he cared for deeply. Ray had a lengthy and successful career working as a geophysicist with Digitech, Petrel, Geo-X and Divestco. Over the years, he formed many strong friendships with his colleagues, and found great meaning in his work until he retired in 2015. He enjoyed discussing news, politics and sports. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his kindness, and his loyalty. Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon, his son Jeff, his brothers; Mike (Maureen), John, and Peter (Diane), and a sister-in-law Eileen, and their children. Ray was predeceased by his daughter, Sonya in 2009 and his brother Walter in 1992. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Altadore Baptist Church, 4304 16th Street SW. Memorial donations in memory of Ray can be made to the Dr. Sonya Lipkewich Memorial Bursary at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine, to continue his daughter’s legacy.
