Ralph Atkin 2018

Obituary for
Ralph Atkin
Ralph Ernest Atkin died peacefully on Sunday November 4, 2018. He was the much-loved husband of the Rev. Nancy Elaine Nagy and father of David, Daniel (Sharokena Davoud), Sandy (I-ki Atkin), Luke (Jean Cabardo) and Kathleen and step-father to Sean and Colin Trotter. He will also be much missed by his sister Margaret Atkin (Armando Del Gabbo) and brother Bill Atkin (Bonny Jordan). Ralph is also survived by his grandchildren Andrea, Brendan, Larissa and Caleb and members of his extended family. Special thanks to Ralph’s sister Margaret (Marny) who was a constant and steadfast support to him through his final illness.
Ralph was a gentle and self-effacing man. He was passionate about advocating for people who are disadvantaged. He preferred to work “behind the scenes” supporting others who championed causes that were important to him. When he was president of his condo board for example, it was noted that he and the woman who worked tirelessly to improve the facility functioned together like the Queen and Mrs. Thatcher, with Ralph fulfilling the regal role. He enjoyed that company of people who are deeply thoughtful and loved a good debate about books or current events. He was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend and a man of faith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 11 at 2 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria St., Aurora. Another visitation will be held on Saturday November 24 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a savings account for Kathleen’s education would be most welcome or alternatively to a charity of your choice. Donations to Kathleen’s education can be made at any BMO – Transit 36972, Institution 001, Account 8953282. Condolences www.roadhouseandrose.com.
