Thompson, Ralph “Tommy” Ivan …born in Newport, Nova Scotia on October 6, 1924, died peacefully at the age of 93 years at the Trenton Memorial Hospital on April 29, 2018 in the presence of family. Predeceased by his loving wife Hazel Thompson (nee Grant), to whom he was married for 67 years. Remembered by his grandchildren; Paul (Dee), Clare (Jim), Sarah… Read More » (Jack), Marc (Meaghan), David (Sarah), Andrew (Hilary), Amber, Sean, Kara, Scott, Emily and Melissa, and his great grandchildren; Robert, Samuel, Thomas, Cameron, Oliver, Evelyn, Alexis and Cooper. Tommy especially enjoyed the friendship and company of Gary and John.
Tommy joined the RCAF in September 1943 and retired in January 1978. He often acknowledged that serving in the Forces for 34 years was the best thing he ever did. Tommy and his wife Hazel (who served with the RCAF Women’s Division 6RD) raised their 6 children on several military bases across Canada, from Greenwood to Comox to Inuvik.
After his last transfer to CFB Trenton, Tommy chose to retire in Trenton, where he spent most of his time doing what he loved the most – playing golf. He was also an avid gardener, and his vegetable and flower gardens were always productive, very beautiful and loved by all, including the wide variety of birds he liked to watch in his garden’s bird feeders.
The family are grateful to the wonderful staff at Seasons Retirement Community (Trenton) for always being accommodating to Tommy in so many ways. They are very appreciative of the excellent and compassionate care he received from the LHIN, ParaMed, VON and the Trenton Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends at WEAVER – West Chapel, 170 Dundas Street, Trenton on Sunday, May 13th from 2-4 pm.
