R. Walter Corey
1934-2018
R. Walter Corey, 84, formerly of
Havelock, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Jordan Lifecare
Centre. Born in New Canaan, he was the son of the late J. Gordon and
Margaret (Allaby) Corey.
In his younger life he was a member of
the Reserve Army. He went on to RCAF and was discharged in 1954. He
attended Modern Business College then worked for his uncle Blois Corey
in the saw mill and retired from Canada Cement LaFarge in 1987. He was
a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Havelock Branch #86. He was not
only a member of the New Canaan Baptist Church, he was also Deacon as
well as long-time caretaker of the New Canaan Baptist
Cemetery.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, family
genealogy, and birdwatching.
Survived and sadly missed by his beloved
wife of 60 years Lola Corey; daughters, Bonita Sabine (John), Angela
Corey, Rosalind Clark (Lorne), and Jacqueline Corey (Jamie); cherished
grandchildren, Riah, Hunter, Kyra and Levi; sisters, Romayne
Dickinson, Elsie Hawker, and Owena Corey; and many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, Walter was
predeceased by his son, Rowland Corey; sister, Evelyn Perry; and
brother, Percy.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home,
3350 Route 106 (372-4800) from where visitation will take place
Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm with the Royal
Canadian Legion holding a tribute service at 5:45 pm. Funeral Service
will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 2 pm in the Funeral Home
Chapel with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. Interment
will be in New Canaan United Baptist Cemetery.
Memorials to New Canaan United Baptist Church or
Cemetery, or a charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
family.
