Phyllis (known to most as “Baba”) was born in Oakburn Manitoba on January 14, 1931. The family moved to Winnipeg where she met and married the love of her life, Jack, in 1950. Shortly after, they welcomed the births of her beloved sons, Richard (1953) and Gerry (1954). Phyllis’ total life revolved around caring for her family and friends.
In her early family days, Phyllis enjoyed working as a Car-Hop waitress for Salisbury House and then as a clerk for Sparling United Church. She then began her career at the Winnipeg Clinic where she worked for many years until her retirement. Travelling and spending time with her family was her true love and primary focus. Phyllis and her family had many vacations at Grand Beach, West Hawk Lake, Banff and even crazy times just camping with the grandchildren. After retirement, her and Jack started to discover the world that included Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas as well as numerous cruises throughout the Caribbean.
Phyllis became the ultimate party planner and host for her huge family gatherings for all types of occasions. She embraced this role with a passion, creating great many memories for all friends and family. She was actively involved with all her family. Baba enjoyed cooking for anyone who graced her doorstep. Her perogies were the absolute ultimate. No one left hungry!!!
Phyllis made many lifelong friendships during the several years her and Jack lived on Henday Bay. In the last few years Phyllis took great pride in helping to care for Jack during his residency at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Most recently she moved and embraced her new life at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence where she made many more friends and doing what she enjoyed most – socializing. She was an amazing human being – a positive shining light to all that had the honor of knowing her. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace General Hospital, for their care and kindness.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
