Obituary Overview
Petronella “Nellie” McInnis (nee Stoker-Gaastra)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Petronella McInnis of Redwater, Alberta.
She leaves behind her two daughters Susanne (Mike) and Belinda (Don); son-in-law Deal; five grandchildren, Leigh, Amber (Corey), Danielle (Jack), Jacqueline (Robbie) and Amanda (Jo); ten great grandchildren, Tuff, Colt, Ameliana, Jacob, Gabrielle, Trysten, Austin, Charleigh, Remi, and Kinslee; two sisters Sjoeke and Janny (Ernest); sister-in-law Madge; and many nephews and nieces. Petronella is predeceased by her loving parents Aaltje and Bouwe, husband Bob, daughter Joanne and grandson Shane.
Petronella was born in Amsterdam, met her husband during the war and was not only courageous but in love. She
moved to England after the war where she kept up correspondence with Bob. She travelled to Canada in 1951 to reunite with Bob where they had 60 wonderful and adventurous years together. Petronella travelled with Bob as he worked on the pipeline, until they settled in Redwater in 1963, where together they spent the remainder of their lives and raised their family. Petronella resided at the Redwater Long Term Care Facility for the last year.
She was an amazing woman and will always live on in our hearts and in our memories; Heaven got another angel.
“If we know where we came from, we may better know where to go. If we know who we came from, we may better understand who we are.”
A very special thank you goes out to the staff of the Redwater Health Centre for their attentive and compassionate care.
A family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Humane Society
in memory of Petronella’s love of animals. Thank you for all your kindness and support.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Petronella McInnis 2018..
