Obituary of Peter Mallory
Mallory, Peter Gordon “Gord” On Wednesday, April 25th, 2018, in his 83rd year, at home with his family and lots of love. Sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Enid (Swerdfeger), children: Peter (Karen), Jonathan (Liz), Allison (Jan Schoute, deceased) and Laura; by his grandchildren: Anna (Katie), Benjamin, Tessa, Jack, Patrick, Mallory (Sean), Jacob (Arianne), Jordan (Brayden), Olivia, Isaac and Deyan, and one very little great-grandchild, Isabella. Also his sister- and brother-in-law, Joyce and Ross Judd, niece, Mary Ellen and nephew, David (Sandra). Predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Edna Mallory. Gord was born in Gravenhurst, and studied electrical engineering at Queens University. He and Enid were married in Kingston in 1960. He came to Peterborough to work as a nuclear engineer at General Electric. In 1971 he and three friends started Spectrum Engineering Company which grew to 120 employees and was eventually sold to Rolls Royce. He served with ORCA as Chairman of the Water Control Board, was treasurer of the Peterborough Field Naturalists, and Chairman of the Board at Northminster United Church. Gord’s interests were his family and friends, the wilderness and his cottage on Big Cedar Lake. He could fix anything and was an accomplished builder. With his father, he added onto his home at Lily Lake and built the Big Cedar cottage. Recently he restored the classic cedar-strip boat built by his father in the 1950s. With Enid, he travelled all over North America mostly in ‘Sam’, their Road Trek camper van, enjoying and photographing natural places, birds and wildlife. A celebration of Gord’s life will be held at Northminster United Church, 300 Sunset Blvd., on Saturday, May 5th, visitation at 10 am, service at 11 am, reception to follow in Wright Hall. If desired, condolences to the family and directions to the service at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca or by calling 705-740-0444. Donations in memory of Gord can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Northminster United Church
