Peter James Darkin
1927-2018
Born in Middle, England, he was the
eldest son of Robert James Darkin and Andrée Joan Darkin
(née Clarke). Peter joined the British Army in 1943 at age
16 and was in the 6th Airborne Division in France in 1944, and later
in Germany and the Middle East. He was employed by the Irish Refining
Company in Whitegate, County Cork and by Esso in Libya, the UK, and in
their New Jersey, USA head office. Peter was recruited by Irving Oil
in 1975, acting as refinery supervisor until his retirement
in 1993. He was an avid reader and enjoyed being in nature, hiking and
fishing.
He was predeceased by his first wife
Elizabeth (Harness). He is survived by his wife Sheila (née
Donoghue), his brother Geoff, his daughters Lisa (m. Jeff Green) and
Fiona (m. Ian MacDonald), granddaughters; Emma and Rebecca Green and
Katie Darkin-MacDonald. He was proud of his girls, was loved and will
be missed.
The family are grateful to the staff at
Kings Way Care Centre for their care and compassion over the past 4
years. According to Peter’s wishes, no services will be held. For
those who wish, remembrances may be made to Kings Way Life Care
Alliance or a charity of the donor’s choice.
