Ivy Elizabeth Peloso (nee Cote)
April 4, 1928- November 18, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ivy Elizabeth Peloso at her home in Mountain Lakes Seniors Community at the age of 90.
Ivy was born in Nelson, BC to Phillip and Rosella Cote, youngest of 5 children. Ivy attended Hume Elementary School, Nelson High School and Business College.
Ivy’s first job was receptionist/assistant for Dr. Shaw, a local dentist. Ivy quit her job after Heather was born to stay at home with Heather, Louise & Susan. When the girls were older she took a job at the Civic Center. She worked in the concession at hockey games and other events, and cooked for the many banquets and the International Hockey School. She started babysitting for many young children who loved her and never wanted to leave.
Andy and Ivy met in Junior High School and started dating in 1946 marrying on August 14, 1948.
Ivy loved camping and fishing. The family would leave on a Friday night hauling the boat to camp at Peanut Lake or Haines Point in Osooyos returning late Sunday night. Many weekends were spent camping and fishing up back roads and at small lakes travelling in the old Willys Jeep. They spent many hours fishing up and down the west arm and on Kootenay Lake.
Eventually the tent was replaced by a 17’ travel trailer, a 5th wheel then a larger 5th wheel. They went on a Caravan trip from Chetwyn to Winnipeg and back as well as many trips to Calgary, Edmonton, Prince George, Kimberley, Vancouver, Spokane and Montana.
In 1977 they went to visit Ivy’s childhood pen pal in New Zealand, visiting Tahiti, Bora Bora, Fiji & Hawaii and in 2006 they went on a cruise to Alaska.
Ivy also loved baking, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She crocheted tablecloths for her daughter’s and granddaughter’s weddings.
Ivy was a charter member of the Nelson and District Riding Club, a 20 year member of the Eagle’s Ladies Auxiliary holding the position of Mother of the Lodge for a year.
Ivy was predeceased by her parents Rosella and Phillip Cote, brothers Vernon, Earl, Le Roi, and sister Helena Mills. Niece Beverly Tetrault, sistersin-law Virginia Cote and Dorothy Cote, brother-in-law Bob Mills, father-inlaw Mario Peloso, and mother-in-law Tranquilla Peloso.
Ivy leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Andy Peloso, her daughter Heather Hnatiuk (Lorne Wuori) Keith (Christie) Jamie; Kimberly Shrubsall (Craig) Tyra & Hunter; daughter Louise Brown (Bob) Jody (Crystal) Leija; Steven (Sarah) Hailey & Mitchell; Shannon Arndt (Danny) Brandon & Jordan; Jamie (Jamie) Aidan, Gauge; and daughter Susan Mucciarone (John) Tara Robertson (Cameron) Taylor & Brooke, and many nieces &nephews.
