Obituary for Peggy Amundson
Peggy (Margaret) Amundson (nee Burke) died peacefully with her family at her side at Meaford Long Term Care nursing home in Meaford, ON on January 10, 2018 at the age of 89.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 63 year Dr. Clifford Amundson and daughter Dr. Heather Amundson both of Collingwood, ON, son James Amundson of Almonte, ON and predeceased by son Burke Amundson and granddaughter Summer Amundson. She leaves behind her grandchildren Jennifer Standen, Dylan Amundson and Kristen Layberry.
Peggy was born on Feb. 22, 1928 in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan to Clive and Margaret Burke. She completed her RN training in Winnipeg Children’s Hospital in 1951 before nursing at the Hospital for Sick Children in Boston. She returned to Saskatchewan and married Cliff on Sept 18, 1954. They resided in Tisdale Saskatchewan for 25 years before moving to Ottawa, ON in 1979. Peggy was an active and dedicated volunteer for Guide Dogs for the Blind in Ottawa for many decades, shepherding hundreds of future guide dogs for the blind into this world. She was an involved volunteer palliative care visitor at Queensway Carleton General Hospital in Ottawa, ON for many years.
Peggy’s family would especially like to that the staff at Chartwell Georgian Traditions and Meaford Long Term care for the excellent care and support provided to both Peggy and her family.
There will be a service of remembrance for Peggy at 1 p.m. on Thursday January 18, 2018 held at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel.
