Obituary of Paul Landry
LANDRY, Paul E.
Pictou
The world is less fortunate today as we announce the passing of a kind and loving man, Paul Emile Landry. Born in Cape Pele, New Brunswick, August 25, 1942, he was the 6th of 17 children of the late Charles & Justine (Legere) Landry. The Landry family moved to Pictou when Paul was 9 years old, where learning English was his first task to accomplish. He attended schools in Pictou, including Pictou Academy, and graduated from Pictou Regional Vocational School in Stellarton with an electrician certificate and was proud of the fact that he was the first student council president. Paul worked for Joe Hudry Electric, Trenton Works, Pictou Shipyard, Scott Paper, and retired from Nova Scotia Power Generating Plant in Trenton in 1998 with 33 years service. His faith was very important to him! Paul was an active member of Stella Maris Parish in Pictou; a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Gerald MacKenzie Council 8608; member of the Stella Maris Cemetery Committee, Hall Committee, and Altar Server at Sunday & Funeral Masses. Paul’s spirituality was heightened after making a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in 2017. Family was his first priority, his wife of 51 years and soulmate, Sandra (Lavoie); their sons, Matthew, Monastery; and Andre, his daughter –in-law, Jenn (the daughter he always wanted) and “the apple of his eye”, his grandson, Austyn, Calgary; his faithful in-laws, Paula & Allan MacDonald, Jaqueline Lavoie, Heather & Eugene Fortune, Alyssa & Daniel, where he spent many hours and ate many meals; as well as his many siblings that made his life tick, Yvette Landry, Moncton; Claudette (Dave Titus), Leona Clarke, Lorraine (Gordon) Chapman, all of Pictou; Doris (Eugene Melanson), Shediac; Doreen (Mel Martins), Vancouver; Noella (Emile Doucette), Alberton, PEI; Mary Louise (Larry Sutherland), Caribou River; brothers, Omer (Irene), Moncton; Charlie (Chriss), Robert (Patsy), Francis (Thelma), Philip (Anne), all of Pictou; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Hilda MacKenzie; brothers, Roger and Gerald; brothers-in-law, Douglas MacKenzie, Arthur Scanlan, Donnie Clarke, Robert Landry; and nephew, B.J. Landry. Besides faith and family, his love was Sports. Paul was a “die hard” Detroit Red Wings fan, he played hockey and ball, and coached many teams, always trying to make each player a better person. He was always interested in politics and after retirement, he ran twice on the Stephen McNeil “Liberal” ticket. Although he lost both elections, he enjoyed meeting all the people of Pictou West and was happy that he had “done his best” and chalked it up to a job well done. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Thursday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. To quote Paul’s philosophy…”Fill your life with adventure, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show” www.mclarenfuneral.ca
