Obituary of Patrick Benson
Benson, Patrick Walter – Of Peterborough (formerly Millbrook), passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at just 45 years of age. Patrick will be terribly missed by his devoted wife and best friend Rachel, his children George, Rory, and step children Melissa, Madison and Brandon. He was the loving son of Pat (Stan) Dyer, and Bob Benson who also mourn his loss. Patrick will be lovingly missed by his step sister Karen (Dave), grandma Ina Dyer, his aunt Karen (Arnold), other extended family, and his many, many friends, all of whose loyalty and devotion are exemplary of the kind of man Patrick was. His dogs Coleman and Bree have indeed lost their “best friend”. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret. Patrick was more than an amazing person. His outgoing personality, wide smile and huge heart were qualities that made him a proud and devoted funeral director helping so many families during their time of sadness. He was a hockey coach like no other, and was a proud member of the Millbrook’s Royal Canadian Legion, BIA, Lion’s Club and Mason’s. Patrick’s private arrangements have been entrusted to Ashburnham Funeral Home, Peterborough. Donations in memory of Patrick can be made to Peterborough Pet Memorial or Angels of Flight, Peterborough. “YULM”!

  1. Patrick was a great guy and good friend. Having worked with him on the Millbrook BIA I know first hand how dedicated he was and how much effort he put into every project. He will be sadly missed. He had many more friends than he realized. Rest in peace my friend.

  2. We will miss Patrick greatly he was a wonderful man and cared deeply for his family and friends
Our Thoughts and prayers to his family

We have known Patrick Benson for many years and I considered him a kind and generous man. Many years ago I served on the volunteer board called the BIA (Business Improvement Association), there I saw Patrick’s commitment to community and his position on the board, as we worked tirelessly to improve our downtown business area with events, beautification, getting the businesses to work together, advocating to the township and municipality for the businesses. Patrick worked hard on this board and served his term with respect from myself the board members.

As my son Tony became more disabled and my husband and I were struggling to work and take care of Tony, Patrick volunteered to help by sitting with him when we didn’t have PSW’S.
For 4 years Patrick sat with Tony 2 mornings a week (which involved making breakfast and feeding him, using a hoyer lift to move him from couch to wheelchair to take him outside and provide general care) and made himself available as an emergency back up. He also took Tony to the movies, Canada’s wonderland, and to his trailer on a few occasions. Patrick’s companionship and caring helped us to provide a better quality of life for Tony. Keep in mind that Tony was completely wheelchair bound and unable to do anything for himself, it takes a special kind of person to take on a responsibility like that.
I have great respect for someone who can give their time to others and not ask for anything in return while living their own busy life.
Patrick still checked in on us to see how we are doing since the loss of our son in February 2017
We will remember your caring heart, May you rest peacefully my friend

  6. I met Patrick soon after I started coaching hockey in Millbrook. Patrick and myself became very close friends for many years. He made a great impact in my life. We had a lot of great times together with our kids. He will be sadly missed. My sympathy goes out to his family. RIP my old friend.
