Olive Burgess
Olive
Burgess, 101, of Canterbury Hall, Riverview and formerly of Austin
St., Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on
Sunday, December 2, 2018.
Born in
Harrisville, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lydia
(Lockhart) Stiles.
Olive was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great
grandmother. She was a member of the former Wesley Memorial United
Church, a member of Harrisville United Church, a Life Member of the
UCW, member of the Church Board and an organizer of the Prayer Chain.
Olive was involved with many community service organizations including
the Moncton Council of Women, Lakeview Manor Auxillary, the first
“Meals on Wheels” in Moncton and a member of Alpha Master
Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She loved people, spending time with family
and friends, sharing a game, a laugh and travelling, especially her
many trips to British Columbia.
Olive will
be sadly missed by her daughter, Wenda Daykin (Bruce) of Victoria, BC;
stepson, Glenn Burgess (Nancy) of Riverview; grandchildren, Tricia,
Ian, Beth, Brenda, Scott, Mark and Joanne; great grandchildren, Jason,
Justin, Jack, Amelia, Penelope, Cove and Jasper; great great
grandchildren, Kevin and Mikayla; niece, Lorna and nephews, Harvey and
Allison; several great nieces, nephews and extended family
members.
In addition
to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Jones
in WWII and second husband, Garfield Burgess; son, Harvey at the age
of 3; stepson, Paul Burgess; sister, Edith and brothers, Milton and
Clarence.
Visitation
at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on
Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, followed immediately
by a service to celebrate and honour Olive’s life at 2:00 pm
with Rev. Charlotte Youland officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home
Reception Centre following the service. Interment will be in Elmwood
Cemetery in the spring.
