Olga Moroz
February 3, 1933 – September 30, 2018
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of their mother and grandmother, Olga Moroz, in Norquay, SK, on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the age of 85.
Olga was born in Oznera, Poland and came to Canada by ship in 1937, with her parents, Stanley and Kataryna (nee:Kawluk) Siutra, and sisters, Anne and Mary. The family went to Winnipeg by train and settled in Sifton, MB. Olga and her husband Steven married on August 1, 1953, and they first resided in Benito, MB. In 1958, Steve and Olga, with their first daughter Donna and first son Dennis, moved to the homestead in Norquay, R.M of Keys, SK, where Olga happily resided for the rest of her life.
Olga assisted in mixed farming by milking cows, raising chickens and endlessly working in the garden. She loved to garden and enjoyed having many varieties of flowers planted through the farm yard. She was happiest at 5AM in her garden with a hoe in her hand! With her love of flowers and many flower gardens, she opened a greenhouse to not only supply herself but began a small business where she spent countless hours planting, replanting and enjoying every minute talking to people and selling her plants in the community. Every summer, Olga eagerly anticipated the annual Norquay Horticultural Flower Show; she would plan the plantings in both the garden and the yard design to compete. She had won numerous awards and trophies recognizing the arrangements she had made.
Olga and Steve were both proud Legionnaires. Olga served as a president of the Ladies Auxiliary Norquay Legion, marching in many parades and promoting the Legion. Olga had a very competitive spirit, actively playing cards, shuffleboard and bowling. She loved to curl and when she was no longer able to curl she loved to follow her teams all winter long. Olga was an active member of both the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the NICE centre in Norquay, where she served and attended many coffees and luncheons.
She was proud of the work she did in Mental Health as a Long-Term Caregiver. She was the first recipient to receive the 30-year recognition award of continuous service in Saskatchewan. Olga retired from this job in 2003 after a severe car accident where her full recovery was questionable. She not only recovered but enjoyed life by traveling to see her children, grandchildren and going to dances with her friends. She had no problem beating anyone who would play her at shuffleboard. Olga loved to live on the farm and was happy staying with her children to visit, but not for any length of time; she appreciated them but to her there was no place like home, her home. She will forever be remembered, loved and missed. Olga was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Kataryna Siutra; her
