Norma Marie (d’Entremont) Hooper, 81 of Dartmouth.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma on Monday Aug 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the Dartmouth General Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Born in Yarmouth County NS, September 1936, she was the daughter of the late Isabelle Marie Rose (Pottier) & L. Archie d’Entremont. Mom attended elementary school in Ste Anne de Ruisseau, Eel Brook and finished her schooling at the Sacred Heart Convent in Meteghan, a private school run by Nuns. She moved to Halifax to pursue a nursing career and graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1957 and began her career at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital where she met the love of her life, Len Hooper and married in 1959. During her Nursing career of 55 years, she worked in Vancouver BC; Yarmouth Regional Hospital and the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth as Head of Detox. In 1974 Maritime Tel & Tel recruited her to develop an Employee Assistance Program. She proudly became a “Pioneer” in this field and her hard work was recognized by the many MT&T employees & their family’s she assisted over the years. She earned many Certifications; Award of Distinction NS Drug Dependence-1987; EAP Professional-1989; Diploma in Management & Clinical Aspects of EAP Practice at University of Maryland, Baltimore-1992; Reality Therapy PEI-1993; Diploma Disability Case Management, Orlando FL-1993; Award of Distinction NS EAPA-1997. After 25 years she retired and started her own company-H&H Health Consulting providing assessment and counselling for several companies. She retired her company and at the age of 67 started working as Care Coordinator with Capital Heath until 2013. Mom had a passion for her Profession & it certainly showed as she stayed with it as long as she could. Mom and Dad enjoyed many winters in Florida in their Motorhome and were well known for their warmth and hospitality. Mom had a sense of style and class second to none, a zest for life, always up for a good time and most importantly, was passionate about her family whom she loved unconditionally. In the kitchen she enjoyed baking, making pickles from her vegetable garden & of course cooking for the family especially her famous Lobster Chowder & Acadian Rappie Pie. Together they lived life to the fullest and it was always interesting to see what adventure they would get up to next. She filled her home and our hearts with love and indulged family and friends with her home. She will be greatly missed by everyone, fondly remembered by her family, friends, neighbors & many patients she helped throughout the years, but the mark that she has left on our lives will forever remain and remind us of her.
